Several barangays in Calasiao, Pangasinan remain flooded due to rainwater getting stagnant, affecting the daily lives of residents.
"Mahirap kumilos dahil ganito na lang parati, yung mga drainage namin, hindi gumagana dahil mas mataas yung tinatawiran niya kesa yung drainage namin," Josephine Gonzales, a resident from Barangay Buenlag, said.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported that despite the Marusay River reaching 8.4 feet above its normal level earlier, the flooding is due mainly to poor drainage systems rather than river overflow.
"Simula ngayong umaga, nag-steady na po sa yung pagtaas ng ating tubig sa ilog. So hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy na maganda ang panahon natin,"Kristine Joy Soriano, MDRRMO spokesperson, said.
However, she noted that floodwaters might take time to subside.
"Medyo matatagalang po yung paghupa ng tubig-baha sa kanilang lugar, gawa ng walang madaluyan yung tubig," Soriano said.
The barangays that are flooded, as of this writing, include:
- Banaoaang
- Bued
- Buenlag
- Dinalaoan
- Doyong
- Gabon
- Lasip
- Longos
- Lumbang
- Malabago
- Mancup
- Poblacion East
- Songkoy
- Talibayew
MDRRMO continues to monitor the situation, ready to evacuate residents if necessary.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) is on standby to assist evacuees.
