As the holiday season approaches, the price of goat meat in Calasiao, Pangasinan may soar to P500 per kilo.
As of this writing, the price stands at P450 per kilo in Barangay Nalsian.
"Kasi 'pag New Year umaabot kami P500 per kilo saka Pasko, pero dalawang araw lang yun… kasi sinasamantala kami ng mga supplier eh, mataas din sila magbigay dito sa mga byahero sa Weste, siyempre hahabulin namin presyo nila," Oscar Dagarag, a vendor, said.
For consumers like Joven Corpuz, the price hike is unavoidable.
According to vendors, goat meat sales have started going up as December enters.
While they usually slaughter three goats daily, this number could jump to as many as 20 to 40 goats during the peak of the holidays due to increased demand.
Naapektohan ata sila ng bagyo kaya walang dumarating," he added.
