Prices of certain eggs and chicken cuts have increased in Pangasinan’s public markets in the first week of December 2024.

In Mangaldan, the price of extra-large eggs rose from P8.50 to P9 per piece, while jumbo eggs now cost P9.20, up from P9.

"Malapit na kasing mag-December kaya tumataas po ang itlog," Christine Fernandez, an egg vendor, said.

However, prices of small, medium, and large eggs remain the same, as of this writing.

Business may be slow at the moment but vendors expect egg sales to pick up as Christmas approaches.

The price of chicken has also gone up.

The price per kilo rose to P200 from P180-190 due to higher cost from suppliers.

"Kung di kami kukuha, wala kaming ibebenta. Kailangan abutin namin ang presyo nila," Marilou Baccay, a chicken vendor, said.

Some vendors predict that chicken prices could rise to P240 per kilo as Christmas draws closer.

Despite the price hike, Nida Velasquez, a regular shopper, still finds the prices manageable.

"Kaya pa naman," she said.
