The entire island of Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands in Surigao del Norte have experienced power interruption since Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The Siargao Electric Cooperative Inc. (SIARELCO) said the power outage is due to a line fault in the submarine cable between Barangay Cagdianao in Claver and Barangay Doña Helen in Socorro.

The technical experts arrived on Tuesday, December 3, and located the first line fault in the submarine cable.

Divers also started locating the second location of the line fault on Thursday, December 5, until Friday, December 6.

The contractor was scheduled to go to Manila to buy the materials needed to repair the submarine cable. The materials will be bought from Singapore if they are not available in the country.

Because of the problem in electricity, some resorts limit the number of guests to be accommodated.

Some towns in Siargao also offered free charging for gadgets like cellphones, laptops, among others.

No exact schedule for power to get restored was given but SIARECLO said all efforts are being exerted to fix the submarine cable.
