Several areas in the Davao region were flooded following heavy rains evening on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Based on data from the Office of the Civil Defense-Davao (OCD-11), more than 800 families were affected from three barangays in Malita, Davao Occidental and 10 families in Barangay Manikling, San Isidro, Davao Oriental as of 6 a.m. on Friday, December 27.
More than 200 families are still staying at evacuation centers temporarily, as of this writing, and they have been given relief goods.
At least five barangays in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental were also affected. These barangays are Dalupan, Nova Villa, Lapuan, Baluntaya, and Calian.
The barangays affected in Malita town are Poblacion, Lais, and Mana.
The Lais Bridge also collapsed, but it was reopened at around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways-Davao (DPWH-11).
Flooding and landslides were also reported in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
The barangays affected include Badas, Tamisan, Bobon, Mamali, and Macambol.
Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) immediately conducted clearing operations.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the heavy rains experienced in the region were due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
