A man in Tagum City was killed allegedly by his own son on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
The suspect, 41, allegedly beheaded and disemboweled his father, 60. He was arrested but refused to speak.
Police said a neighbor noticed a commotion inside the house where the father and son lived.
The neighbor reportedly saw the suspect holding a scythe and she ran to seek help after the suspect allegedly tried to approach her.
When authorities arrived, they saw the suspect beside the victim.
Police found the victim’s heart on a mangrove tree.
The suspect also allegedly threw the victim’s head into the river and the same has not been found, as of this writing.
“According sa nakakita, tinapon (ng suspek ang ulo) doon sa may river area dito sa (Brgy.) Madaum. At tsaka ginamitan pa niya ng pala at pinaglalagyan ng putik ‘yung katawan,” Tagum City Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Wildemar Tiu, said.
Authorities recovered from the crime scene the weapons the son allegedly used, including a bolo, hammer, and shovel.
Police said that based on neighbors’ accounts, the victim allegedly scolded his son for not returning home. Prior to the incident, the victim allegedly fetched the suspect from their neighbor’s house.
“Accordingly, meron siyang mental disorder, so, ang unang mga hinala nila lulong sa droga pero na(laman) din natin na ‘yung family nila merong ganun na sakit,” Tiu said.
The suspect’s siblings are determined to press charges against him.
