The police’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS) has launched an investigation into the death of a person of interest (POI) in the alleged rape and killing of a five-year-old girl in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
Police said the POI surrendered to the Valencia City Task Force and reportedly owned up to the crime.
While he was giving his extra-judicial confession, he allegedly snatched the gun of a policeman and shot himself.
The PNP-IAS is also investigating the police personnel involved.
“Ga-conduct naman ta og investigation. Actually, ato na gipa-explain ang atong Chief of Police and I directed the IAS to conduct their motu propio investigation,” Bukidnon Provincial Police Office (PPO) Director, Col. Jovit Culaway, said.
“Before siya giturn-over sa atoa na-interview napud to nila sa City Task Force sa Valencia and he was also positively identified sa atong usa ka witness,” Culaway added.
According to the POI’s sister, they were shocked to learn about the supposed incident.
The POI’s family continues to seek clarification from authorities as they could not believe he is capable of doing the same.
“Isa gyud namo gina(hangyo) nga atubangon mi sa mga police katung panahon, katung mga police nga naa ato nga time nga gi-surrenderan ni kuya bitaw, kay dili man gud sila muatubang sa amoa,” the POI’s sister said.
The family added that an official of the Valencia City Task Force told them that two men brought the POI to their office.
“Naka-motor daw tung tao, duha ka tao dayun ilang gikuha akong magulang ug gipangutana sa supervisor nila kung siya ba gyud nagbuhat sa krimen, ni oo ra daw ang akong kuya,” the POI’s sister added.
The family also want to know the identity of the two men who brought the POI to the Valencia City Task Force.
“Kung ni-surrender siya, dapat gi-inform pud nila ang among barangay captain o kami mga hingtungdan wala man pud mi nakabalo,” the POI’s sister said.
