A fire razed a poultry farm in Barangay Gueset, Bugallon, Pangasinan, killing 35,000 chickens and causing an estimated P40 million in damages.

The fire reportedly started in one of the buildings in the farm and spread quickly.

Farm employees reported hearing electrical sparks before noticing thick smoke.

“Tinignan naman nila is walang apoy at walang usok. And then nung last na pag-inspect nila, may apoy na po,” SFO1 Norman Garcia, Chief of the Investigation Intelligence Unit at the Bugallon Fire Station, said.

Attempts to extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers failed as the fire grew rapidly.

Firefighters arrived but were unable to save the chickens, which either burned or suffocated due to the smoke.

Only one chicken survived the blaze.

“Tumagal siya nang almost two hours... Nung dumating yung mga bumbero, wala nang sunog,” the farm's owner said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection suspects an electrical short circuit caused the fire.

Garcia said while the farm underwent an inspection last year, it had not yet been inspected this year.
