An alleged member of the Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) and a government soldier were killed in a series of clashes in Lanao del Sur.

According to the 1st Infantry Division (1ID), at least four intense armed encounters that lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes each occurred in Barangay Kalanganan, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur from January 24 to 26, 2025.

The clashes resulted in the death of a DI-MG member and confiscation of high-powered firearms, including rifles, grenades, ammunition, and an improvised explosive device (IED) circuit indicator, among others.

The military said one soldier was killed and two others were injured during the armed encounters. The wounded personnel are receiving treatment, as of this writing.

1ID commander, Major General Gabriel Viray III, extended his sympathies to the family of the fallen soldier and lauded the troops for their bravery.

“This achievement sends a strong message to terrorist groups that we will not tolerate their attempts to disrupt peace and security in the region,” Viray said.
