Thick frost blanketed crops in Barangay Paoay, Atok, Benguet and Mount Pulag, as temperatures dipped.

Photos taken early Sunday, January 26, 2025, showed frost, or ‘andap,’ covering vegetables and grass in Benguet’s highlands.

“Maraming occurrence sila ng frosting. Kung mas malamig ang surface at malamig ang temperature, mas madaling mag-solid particle ang moisture, ‘yun ang frost,” PAGASA-Baguio Chief Meteorologist Engr. Larry Esperanza said.

Farmers, however, remain prepared to handle these icy conditions.

They use frost-resistant vegetables and apply interventions to protect their crops.

So far, no significant effects on the vegetable supply have been reported.

At the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, vegetables continue to arrive regularly, and prices remain stable.

“Siguro sa February ulit (tataas ang presyo), pero ang gulay is affordable pa rin,” Janice Binay-an Alleg, Market Supervisor II of the La Trinidad LGU, said.

Meanwhile, Baguio City recorded a minimum temperature of 13.4°C morning on Monday, January 27.

PAGASA said temperatures could drop to single digits in the coming days.
