A birthday party in Barangay Nalsian Norte, Bayambang, Pangasinan, ended in chaos after a man stabbed four attendees during a late night altercation.
The group was enjoying drinks around 11 p.m. when an argument broke out.
According to police, the 41-year-old suspect became upset after getting scolded by a guest for pouring a liter of soft drink over someone.
The suspect left the gathering but returned moments later with a knife.
“Umuwi lang siya ng bahay, hindi ko alam na kukuha siya ng patalim, kaya pagbalik niya ng mga minuto lang, umupo ulit at tumagay ng isa,” 'Jun,' the guest who confronted the suspect, said.
The suspect attempted to stab Jun allegedly but was stopped by four friends who tried to disarm him.
In the struggle, the suspect stabbed them instead.
“Dahil sa mga kaibigan din na nasa vicinity—yung kasama nila sa inuman ay umawat. Ang nangyari, lahat ng mga umawat na rin—tinamaan o nasaksak ng suspek,” PCol. Rollyfer Capoquian, Provincial Director of Pangasinan PPO, said.
The victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect, now detained at Bayambang Police Station, claimed he acted in self-defense.
“Dahil marami na silang lalapit sa akin kaya 'yung kutsilyo na 'yung [naging] pandepensa ko... baka ako naman ang mamatay, dahil talagang marami sila,” the suspect said.
Police recovered the seven-inch knife used in the attack.
Charges are now being prepared against the suspect.
