Authorities have arrested 12 people in Davao City for allegedly violating the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban since its implementation on January 12, 2025.
Data from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) also showed that from January 12 to 26, at least nine guns and a knife were confiscated.
The latest apprehensions include a 33-year-old man who ran amok in Barangay Dacudao, a 31-year-old man who was caught with a caliber .45 pistol without documents at a checkpoint in Barangay Lasang, and a 26-year-old woman and her companion who were arrested with an improvised gun and a caliber .45 pistol during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sasa.
“Atong hangyo lang gyud, ang Davao City Police Office and other security forces especially sa atong control borders, istrikto gyud nga naga-conduct og inspection para pagprepare sa atong elections this coming May,” DCPO Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.
Police added that there were personalities who also turned in their guns and explosives voluntarily.
Up to 19 firearms and an explosive were surrendered to authorities, so far.
“Ang uban ani kay gideposit. So, para safe sila ug para pud dili magamit sa uban ang ilahang firearms nga walay permit from the COMELEC nga ilang dal-on outside from their residence,” Tuazon added.
