Up to 87 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have abandoned the armed struggle and returned to the folds of the law in San Fernando, Bukidnon.
The mass surrender was facilitated by the 89th Infantry Battalion under the 10th Infantry Division (10ID).
The military said the former rebels were members of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Command 2 under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
They also turned over 17 firearms, including four high-powered weapons.
The former rebels received P10,000 each as immediate cash assistance.
Major General Allan Hambala, commander of 10ID, urged the former rebels to move forward with renewed hope and patriotism.
“Let us think about the future of our children and grandchildren, so that positive change and progress can enter your lives. Embrace the path of peace and reconciliation for the betterment of our communities,” Hambala said.
