Cases for murder and two counts of parricide will be filed against a father who hacked to death his live-in partner and two of his three children in the City of Naga, Cebu.
As of this writing, the suspect is under hospital arrest after City of Naga Police captured him.
The suspect was taken to a public hospital in Cebu City. He sustained a gunshot wound on his knee, as policemen tried to repel him from attacking them during the manhunt operation.
The filing of charges is set supposedly on January 29, 2025 but since the date falls on a special non-working holiday throughout the country in celebration of the Chinese New Year, the date is expected moved on January 30, 2025.
The manhunt operation conducted by policemen along with personnel from different agencies of the City of Naga Government took about six hours.
The suspect earlier identified as Carlo Camporedondo, 33 years old, hacked dead his live-in partner, 32-year-old Junelyn Gimenez, and two of their children, ages 11 years old and two years old.
The incident happened past 10 a.m. on January 27, 2024 in their residence in Sitio Kamanggahan, Barangay Lutac, City of Naga while the victims were having breakfast.
Police tracked him down in the upland barangay of Cogon, approximately 4.4 kilometers away from the crime scene.
“[Sa] Cogon, still part of City of Naga nacorner atong suspect, instead of surrendering to one of our team nga gi-compose, he managed to attack one of our police officers by his bolo, katong murder weapon, so as circumstances required our personnel, defended himself and used reasonable force to repel the attack of our suspect, that cause injury sa iyang tuhod," according to Police Lt. Col. Verniño Noserale, chief of the City of Naga Police Station.
The authorities pursued three possible motives in the perpetration of the heinous crime: Camporedondo’s alleged habitual use of illegal drugs, indulgence in online gambling, and jealous fit.
Camporendo also attempted to hack the grandmother of the children, but the woman was able to run away fast and sought refuge in a neighbor’s house.
It was learned from the grandfather of the children, Teopisto Ubanos, that before Camporedondo fled the scene, the suspect told him the victims are already dead.
The victims sustained hack wounds on the nape and neck that severed their head from their bodies.
While there are statements from persons familiar with Camporedondo that he has mental health challenges, the policemen are set to file charges against him.
“Kon magclaim man siya, he’s claiming for insanity, but for us as the investigators of this case we will be filing the appropriate complaint of murder and two counts of parricide against our suspect and will be subjected for inquest not later than 12 noon tomorrow [January 29, 2025],” Lt. Col.Noserale stressed.
Meanwhile, an autopsy on the bodies of the victims was undertaken.
Further, the seven-year-old child who was in school at the time of the incident has been taken into the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for counseling, and other forms of intervention.
