A 52-year-old businessman died after gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at his sports utility vehicle (SUV), which led to the vehicle crashing into an electric post in Jaen, Nueva Ecija.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police launched a hot pursuit operation, which led to the arrest of one suspect. Another suspect drowned after jumping into a river while trying to escape.

Authorities recovered a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition, a grenade, identification cards, and a plastic sachet of suspected shabu from the suspect arrested.

His motorcycle was also confiscated.

“Meron na po siyang previous na kaso, kaya lang po na-dismiss ang kaniyang kaso. Shooting incident din po iyon, frustrated murder din po,” PMaj. Ernesto Esguerra, Chief of Jaen Police Station, said.

Relatives of the victim revealed that the suspect was a former employee of the businessman.

Police are now investigating the mastermind behind the attack.

The suspect arrested is facing multiple charges, including murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and drug-related offenses.

He is currently detained at the Jaen Police Station as the investigation continues.
