The Iloilo City Government is set to impose strictly its anti-littering ordinance and curfew for minors at the newly opened Iloilo Sunset Boulevard.

Effective February 3, 2025, 'park shot' in the area is prohibited, as well as ambulant vendors without sanitary permit.

This after Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed his dismay over the irresponsible throwing of garbage, such as bottles of liquor, in what is supposed to be a green open space and a tourist spot in the city.

“Kung iinom ka, at magmamaneho ng kotse, ang result dyan is aksidente. I do not want it to happen. I will also get in touch with LTO RD [Land Transportation Office Regional Director] Geduspan, lalagyan dyan nila ng breath analyzer,” Treñas said.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) has also started the rescue of stray dogs at Sunset Boulevard. Dog owners are advised to claim their pets from the dog pound.

On the evening of February 2, 2025, the LGU conducted a live public announcement (called locally as “rekorida”) to remind residents and visitors on the rules and regulations imposed at Sunset Boulevard.

According to a few Ilonggos interviewed by GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, they expressed worry that the throwing of garbage may affect the image of Iloilo City.

Over two tons of garbage were collected by the Iloilo City General Services Office (GSO) on February 2, 2025.

Following a cleanup, over 20 trash bins have been placed conspicuously every 200 meters in the area.

“We should be responsible sa pag-dispose sang waste. We should own this infrastructure. Ang ganda, so dapat, ma-protect and ma-preserve natin ito,” Engr. Neil Ravena, head of the Iloilo City GSO, said.

The LGU mulls on relocating the informal settlers in the vicinity of the boulevard.

Further, Treñas said that the management of Iloilo Sunset Boulevard has been turned over completely to the LGU.

In the next session of the Iloilo City Council, Treñas will request authority to have documents on the turnover signed.
