The Local Government Unit of Lapu-Lapu City has acknowledged business establishments, that implemented the 20-percent discount to senior citizens, through senior citizen-friendly stickers.
According to Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, Senior Citizens, and Persons with Disability, the stickers serve to encourage business establishments to implement Republic Act 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.
The recognition is also a way to encourage more senior citizens to patronize only those establishments with senior citizen-friendly sticker.
Cuizon added that they have received a number of complaints against two pharmacies in the city that reportedly denied senior citizens of the mandated discount.
The Lapu-Lapu City Government has already issued a cease and desist order on one of the two drugstores, Cuizon said.
