The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will press charges against those who spread unverified information on social media about alleged abduction incidents in the city.

DCPO is already looking into the personalities behind the social media posts.

Those responsible may face charges for violation of the Revised Penal Code and Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Police said the posts are only meant to destroy the image of the city.

Authorities added that unverified information will only cause panic.

Police said there was no abduction or attempted abduction in Barangay Communal contrary to a post that spread online.

“Na-found out nga walay abduction, attempted abduction nga nahimo atong higayona, that time nga ilahang giingon kay sa ilahang statement mismo nga ni-open lang og window ang katong driver sa van. Walay timailhan nga gi-attempt og abduct,” DCPO Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.

Authorities urged the public to use social media responsibly and verify the information first before posting or sharing it online.

“Be responsible kung unsa man na’y gipost ninyo dapat tinuod na ug dili himo-himo lang,” Tuazon added.
