On February 5, 2025, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte with 215 representatives endorsing the verified complaint that was transmitted to the Senate for trial.
The verified complaint approved by the House plenary moved to impeach Duterte "based on the grounds of Culpable Violation of the Constitution, Betrayal of Public Trust, Graft and Corruption, and Other High Crimes."
Among all lawmakers from the Davao region, only Congressman John Tracy Cagas from Davao del Sur signed the impeachment complaint.
In a joint statement, Representatives Suan, Emano, and Unabia said they signed the impeachment complaint ‘in adherence to the principles of transparency, accountability, and due process.’
“This endorsement is not a verdict of guilt nor is it driven by political interests. Rather, it is a recognition of the constitutional process that ensures all public officials are afforded the opportunity to respond to allegations in a fair and impartial forum,” the three lawmakers from Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental said.
“Our vote for impeachment was not to condemn the person of the Vice President, but rather to ensure that she is afforded the proper forum to defend her actions and decisions made on the grounds cited in the complaint,” they added.
