Three teenagers died in a tragic road accident after their motorcycle collided with a van on the national road in Barangay Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan at around 2 a.m. on February 5, 2025.
The victims, one male rider and two female passengers, were all minors and residents of the town.
Due to the strong impact, the motorcycle caught fire, while the van’s front portion was damaged severely.
According to police investigation, the van driver encroached on the motorcycle’s lane, leading to the fatal crash.
Authorities said the teenage rider had no driver’s license and took the motorcycle without permission.
“Bandang alas-dyes pa po tinignan po ng asawa ko dun sa kwarto, andun pa po siya, naglalaro sila nung bata. Akala po namin talagang hindi na siya aalis. Binilin ko pa, ‘Anak wag kang aalis kasi masakit ulo ko.’ ‘Opo, Mama,’ sabi niya,” Jackilou Vicente, the mother of the male rider, said.
Sta. Barbara Police Chief PLTCOL. Michael Datuin said both parties had responsibilities in the accident.
“Masasabi nating wala pang karapatan na mag-drive yung driver ng motor kasi menor de edad at the same time wala po siyang lisensya. Pero wag po nating kalilimutan na yung pong driver ng van ang nag-encroach… so base sa imbestigasyon, itong driver ng van e meron din pagkakasala,” he said.
Police have filed charges against the van driver, who has yet to release a statement.
Authorities remind motorists to wear protective gear, such as helmets and reflectors, and to follow road safety rules to prevent similar tragedies.
