A few areas in Eastern Visayas were inundated due to heavy rainfall brought about by the shear line, a weather system that has affected Southern Luzon and the Visayas regions.
The level of water rose in a few barangays in the Municipality of Dolores, Province of Eastern Samar.
According to Danlen Germodo Tapon, a resident of Barangay Caglao-an, the flooding was experienced after two days of torrential rains.
Intense rain poured beginning on February 5, 2025.
Tapon said that Caglao-an, one of 46 barangays of Dolores, is a flood-prone area.
Further, a video taken by netizen Placido Baleña Opalalic showed that water inundated Barangay San Roque.
Floodwater also rose in Barangay Magsaysay.
Based on PAGASA's 24-hour recorded rainfall amount, the City of Catbalogan in the Province of Samar received the most amount of rain at 142.3 millimeters (mm), or equivalent to 711,500 drums of water per square kilometer.
Second on the list is Borongan City in Eastern Samar with 133.8 mm, or 669,000 drums of water per square kilometer.
On third spot is Guiuan town, also in Eastern Samar with 74.2 mm, or about 371,000 drums per square kilometer.
PAGASA Visayas weather specialist, Engr. Jhomer Eclarino, said that the axis of the shear line is along the Eastern Visayas and Southern Luzon regions, thus the downpour.
Shear line is the convergence of cold and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean that bring heavy to intense rainfall.
