Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever are reportedly prevalent in the Province of Iloilo.
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) logged four death cases due to dengue in January 2025.
The first case was that of a 67-year-old woman from Pototan town who died on January 18, 2025; the second case was of a 71-year-old male person from Carles town who succumbed to dengue on January 25, 2025; the third was from Pototan, a six-year-old boy who died on January 26, 2025. The fourth was an 11-month-old baby boy from Oton town who died on January 30, 2025.
Based on data from IPHO, a total of 385 dengue cases was logged in the first month of 2025, from January 1, 2025 to February 1, 2025, or about 58-percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The Municipality of Cabatuan has topped the list of areas with the most number of dengue cases at 22, followed by Leon, Oton, and San Joaquin towns with 21 cases each, and Dumangas with 19 cases.
The Province of Iloilo has more than 40 municipalities.
Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon, IPHO head, called on the public once again to help strengthen the government's anti-dengue drives by participating in regular cleanups, using mosquito repellent, seeking consultation immediately at the onset of signs and symptoms, among other measures.
