Two motorcycle riders, including a minor, died in a head-on collision during an alleged drag race on Arenas Boulevard in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

According to police, the victims were speeding on opposite lanes when they suddenly crashed into each other.

“Ang cause ng pagkamatay ng isa ay naumpog sa gutter. ‘Yung isa naman, nahulog at tumilapon din siya sa sobrang impact ng aksidente nila,” PLT. Roberto De Vera Jr., duty officer of Calasiao Police Station, said.

Both riders, from Malasiqui and Dagupan City, sustained severe injuries.

They were rushed to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

At the wake of one victim, his grieving mother, Marlyn Balanza, shared how well-loved her son was.

“Maraming nagmamahal sa kanya, palakaibigan siya, matulungin. Tuwing may nasisiraan ng motor, nandiyaan siya kahit na anong oras,” she said.

Police warned the public against illegal drag racing, especially on Arenas Boulevard, which is still under construction.

“Doon sa mga mahilig mag-drag race, mag-isip-isip kayo dahil iisa ang buhay. Kaya mag-helmet at huwag magpatakbo nang mabilis,” De Vera said.

The local government is studying possible measures to prevent similar accidents in the area.
