A passenger bus overturned on the national highway in Barangay Unzad, Villasis, Pangasinan after the driver tried to avoid another vehicle amid heavy rain.

At last 21 passengers, including the driver and two conductors, were injured in the incident.

An amateur video captured the aftermath, showing the bus lying on its side after crashing into metal and concrete railings before sliding several meters.

The impact also knocked a solar light post down.

According to police, the driver lost control of the steering wheel due to slippery road conditions.

“Hindi niya nabawi. Bale split seconds lang ‘yung nangyari,” PLT. Apolo June Lorenzo, Duty Officer of Villasis Police Station, said.

Passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries. No fatalities were reported.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started repair on the railings that were damaged.

Police confirmed that the bus company will cover the medical expenses of the injured passengers.

Meanwhile, no complaints have been filed against the bus driver, who has been released from police custody.

Authorities remind all motorists to follow speed limits strictly, especially during rainy conditions.

“Laging tatandaan ang speed limit, lalo na kung maulan ay madulas [ang kalsada],” Lorenzo said.
