An 18-year-old man drowned after he allegedly jumped off a bridge with his girlfriend to avoid alleged robbers in Cagayan de Oro.

According to the man’s mother, she saw her son drinking beside the road evening on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The victim was found dead the next day.

Authorities are verifying reports that the victims were robbed before they jumped.

“Kamulo ang imbestigasyon niini tungod kay daghan man ang hungihong apan dili pa kita makakumpirma sa hinungdan kung naa ba’y nahitabo nga foul play o boluntaryo nga miambak ang maong biktima,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Spokesperson, Captain Emilita Simon, said.

“Personal nga maka-testify nga nakasaksi o maka-confirm nga aduna gyud pagpanulis or naa’y nakita nga mga tulisan ugaling naa man,” Simon added.

Police said the girlfriend is still missing, as of this writing.

The man’s mother urged the man’s companions before the incident happened to cooperate in the investigation.

“Ambot ang pangutana nako kung kinsa ng duha bayhana nga iyang kauban taga sulod apilon gyud nako na og imbestiga kay dili mulakaw ang akong anak og dili gumikan nila,” the man’s mother said.
