At least 41 kilos of shabu worth P284 million were burned by personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, Philippine National Police (PNP) 7, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) 7 on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The contraband seized from various anti-drug operations was burned in a crematorium of a funeral homes in Cebu City.

The contraband consisted of the 25 kilos of shabu seized from a mother-and-son tandem of drug couriers at Pier 5 in Cebu City in January 2025, marijuana, and other illegal substances.

PDEA chemists confirmed the substance to be shabu based on standard examinations.

The illegal drugs were fed into a thermal machine that destroyed the contraband at 1,000° Centigrade.

The burning of the illegal drugs has the permission of the court, wherein only a portion of the substance was left for use in court proceedings.

Top officials of PDEA 7 led by Regional Director Alex Tablete, and Police Regional Office (PRO 7) led by its Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan commended a continuously vigilant community that has contributed signficantly in the success of their anti-illegal drugs operations. 

Close coordination among operatives of PDEA and the PNP, and other agencies, has helped strengthen cases that ensure conviction, from the start of the operation to the prosecution, according to DOJ 7 officials.

Officials of the Local Government Unit of Cebu City, led by Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, graced the burning of the illegal drugs, as well as Police Colonel Enrico Figueroa, director of the Cebu City Police Office.
