A fire destroyed at least 12 houses in Jaro District, Iloilo City and left damages pegged at close to a million pesos. 

The fire broke out at about 2 p.m. on  February 16, 2025 in Zone 7, Barangay Buntatalâ and destroyed nine houses and three partially gutted houses. 

According to FO2 Earl Anthony Darroca, arson investigator at the Bureau of Fire Protection, the cost of damage reached P890,000.

According to Jerelyn Sunon, one of at least 89 fire victims, they noticed of distinct burning smell hours before the fire broke out in the house of her aunt, Lagrimas Sunon Palomo. 

The fire was raised to third alarm. 

Investigation is ongoing, as of posting time, on what could have caused the fire.
