More than 20 houses were razed by separate fire incidents in Mindanao.

In Davao City, 18 houses were affected when a fire broke out in Barangay 37-D dawn on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

According to some residents, a portion of an electric line sparked before the fire broke out.

The fire reportedly spread quickly as most of the houses affected were made of light materials.

“Ugdaw uy, wala ray semana gikan pagkahuman. Mga hapit 50K,” a resident affected said.

Affected families are staying temporarily at the barangay gymnasium and calling for assistance.

“Para makatukod mi kinahanglan mi og cash assistance siguro para makasugod og tindog mi og bag-ong balay ug mga gamit namo,” another resident affected added.

Data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) showed at least five houses were affected.

Meanwhile, four houses were also razed by fire in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire may have started at the house where a man allegedly set it on fire intentionally.

Authorities said the man who allegedly set his house on fire reportedly has history of substance abuse.

“Naa’y time nag okay siya kay mga previous day okay siya. Pero ato nga day unruly gyud iyang behavior gyud,  murag naa pud siya’y history sa substance abuse,” BFP-Tagoloan Investigator, SFO2 Herman Glenn Gentallan, said.

The man was taken into police custody and may face arson charges.

In Cagayan de Oro City, a fire broke out at the Cogon Public Market.

The fire may have started at the store that sold ready-to-wear clothes.

Two stalls were affected.

The fire was raised to second alarm and the cost of damage was pegged at P200,000.
