Four people died while 13 others were injured in a road crash involving a van and a pickup truck in General Santos City.

Police said the van and the pickup were traveling in opposite directions when the latter allegedly overtook another vehicle and crashed into the approaching van.

“Murag ang pick-up ang dunay problema kay nag-overtake man siya, nag-counterflow, ningsulod sa pikas linya mao tong nahagip tong van,” General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) Director, Col. Nicomedes Olaivar, Jr., said.

The driver of the van and three passengers did not reach the hospital alive while 13 other passengers of the van, all of whom are residents of Cotabato City, were injured.

On the other hand, five people on board the pickup truck were also injured. They are relatives and residents of Tampakan, South Cotabato.

The individuals injured were brought to different hospitals for treatment.

Police said both parties are trying to reach an agreement, as of this writing.

The driver of the pickup truck has yet to issue a statement.

GSCPO will recommend to the local government to improve the traffic system in the area to prevent similar incidents.

“Possible naa tay i-improve sa system sa pagpanakop, mga speed gun, naa ba tay CCTV nga makakita didto unya mag-flag down sila sa unahan, sobra ilang padagan, part na sa traffic engineering na ma-improve,” Olaivar said.
