The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) conducted a Tax Compliance and Verification Drive (TCVD) from February 10 to 14, 2025, inspecting over 1,500 business establishments in Central Pangasinan.
BIR said they exceeded their initial target of 1,450 businesses.
BIR officials checked whether businesses followed tax regulations, particularly in keeping records and displaying required permits.
They found various violations, including:
- Failure to register the business
- Failure to keep books of accounts at the place of business
- Failure to display the Certificate of Registration (COR)
- Failure to make daily entries in the books of accounts
- Failure to display the Notice to Issue Invoice
BIR Assistant Revenue District Officer Susana Cabanayan said while no immediate penalties were issued, business owners were notified of their violations.
“Lahat ng violation, may corresponding penalty. Per last week, friendly ‘yung tax mapping. Inu-note lang namin ‘yung violations na nakita,” Cabanayan said.
Most of the businesses inspected were small retail stores, eateries, and pharmacies.
Some establishments complied fully with tax regulations, like Raquel De Vera-Romero’s eatery in Calasiao, Pangasinan.
“Hindi ka natatakot pag may biglaang inspeksyon. Ayan, kinumpleto ko na para walang takot,” Romero said.
Aside from inspections, the BIR also guided business owners on registration requirements and compliance processes.
“Kung na-notify na siya na hindi pa nai-register, susulatan ulit siya na mag-comply. Kung hindi pa mag-comply, puwedeng ipasara sa pamamagitan ng Oplan Kandado,” Cabanayan said.
As of this writing, BIR-Central Pangasinan is verifying around 35,000 businesses for compliance.
Unregistered businesses may face fines of up to P20,000, depending on their location and classification.
The BIR urges business owners to register properly and follow tax regulations to avoid penalties or possible closures under Oplan Kandado.
