A policeman was wounded after a robbery suspect allegedly fought back during a police operation in Cagayan de Oro.

Police launched the operation after a complainant reported that his motorcycle was taken away allegedly by the 27-year-old suspect.

The complainant’s motorcycle was recovered during the operation.

“Gilayon gifollow-up sa atong operatiba, successful ilang na-intercept ang maong tao, ila pud narekober ang unit katung sa motor diha sa Camaman-an,” Cogon Police Station Chief, Major Sabino Labitad, said.

However, the suspect who was armed with a knife allegedly fought back to evade arrest.

The policeman sustained wounds in his hands and stomach. The suspect was also wounded.

Police said the suspect was allegedly involved in other robbery incidents and they have been following the suspect’s activities.

“Ang atong personnel katung nagresponde ato, aduna lang siya’y gamay nga garas sa iyang tiyan pero wala naman problema,” Labitad said.

Labitad lauded the wounded officer for his dedication and reminded all police officers to take extra caution in carrying out their duties.

The suspect is facing charges for direct assault and illegal possession of bladed weapon. The complainant will also file charges against the suspect.

“Sa pagkakaron gipasaka na ang kasong direct assault and serious resistance and illegal possession of bladed weapon ug ato sab biktima mu-file usab og kaso,” Labitad said.
