Nine people were arrested for alleged illegal discharge of firearms in Iligan City.

According to the Iligan City Police Office, a concerned citizen reported that a gunfire was heard from a group of individuals seen standing beside a pickup truck near Mandulog Bridge in Barangay Hinaplanon.

Police responded immediately, but the group has already fled the area.

A few hours later, the vehicle was intercepted at a checkpoint in Barangay Santiago and the suspects, five men and four women, were taken into police custody.

Recovered from the vehicle were two Glock .40 pistols; two magazines; 24 rounds of caliber .40 live ammunition; and a fired cartridge case of caliber .40.

The suspects may face charges for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) and election gun ban.
