Election officials and law enforcers in Dagupan City once again took down oversized and campaign materials put up illegally during a joint "Oplan Baklas" operation.
Commission on Election (COMELEC) personnel had to climb onto a truck to remove a poster from a gasoline station roof, while another team pulled down a sign posted from an electric pole.
“Marami pa rin. Common violation pa rin ang nakalagay sa puno, oversized, nakakabit sa electric posts,” Dagupan City Election Officer Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento said.
Authorities targeted campaign materials of national candidates, including party-list groups.
After the operation, COMELEC conducted an inventory to identify and report violations.
The poll body reminded candidates that posters are not allowed on trees, electric posts, utility facilities, and public or government-owned structures.
“Nananawagan tayo na sana, sila na mismo ang magsabi sa kanilang volunteers na sumunod sa panuntunan natin,” Pangasinan Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Ericson Oganiza said.
Meanwhile, the Pangasinan police said security measures are in place as the election approaches.
“So far, ang probinsiya natin, generally peaceful. Kaliwa’t kanan ang checkpoint, nakakalat ang ating kapulisan,” PCOL. Rollyfer Capoquian, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office director, said.
Another "Oplan Baklas" operation is scheduled for April when the local campaign period begins.
