Teachers serving as members of the Electoral Board will receive higher honoraria in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
Teacher Elizabeth Zareno of West Central Elementary School 1 in Dagupan City, who has served in elections for 25 years, expressed her appreciation for the increase.
She has served in the elections 10 times and will do so again this year.
"Ay siyempre, ‘yung aming integridad bilang isang teacher. ‘Yung honesty sa pag-serve sa eleksyon," she said.
During the 2022 elections, Myla Navarro, another teacher, received P9,000 for her role.
She said the additional compensation will help ease the challenges of election duty.
"Alam naman natin tuwing eleksyon, pagod, puyat. Pero, okay naman po ‘yung pagsisilbi sa eleksyon," she shared.
For the 2025 elections, the honorarium for the Chairman of the Electoral Board will be P12,000 while the Poll Clerk and the Third Member will receive P11,000 each.
An additional P2,000 training allowance will also be provided.
Dagupan City Election Officer, Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, said extended voting hours will be implemented to accommodate senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant women.
"Dahil mas mahaba ‘yung voting hours, magsasagawa tayo ng early voting hours para sa senior citizens, PWDs, at buntis," he said.
The elections are scheduled for May 12, 2025, with polling stations open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
