A 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly selling firearms illegally in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)- Caraga, the suspect was caught in the act of selling a gun to an undercover police officer posing as a buyer.
Authorities launched the operation after receiving reports about illegal gun trade in the area.
Seized from the suspect were a caliber .45 pistol, ammunition, and a vehicle.
The suspect may face charges for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) and Omnibus Election Code.
"I commend Surigao del Sur PFU for their tactical efficiency and dedication in the fight against illegal firearms. CIDG Caraga remains steadfast in its mission to curb illegal activities, particularly the proliferation of unlicensed firearms, which pose a significant threat to public safety and security, especially during this election period,” CIDG-Caraga Chief, Col. Zacarias Noel Villegas, said.
