A man died while his wife was injured after their car was hit head-on by a truck attempting to overtake a bus in Barangay Bugayong, Binalonan, Pangasinan.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage shows a truck following a passenger bus before veering suddenly into the opposite lane, crashing into an oncoming car.

"Ang nangyari kasi may sinusundang bus itong truck. So, accordingly, nag-stop itong (bus) kasi mag-pick-up ng pasahero niya. So alanganin na 'yung truck kaya kinabig niya sa kaliwa… ‘yun nga nagkaroon ng head-on collision," PCapt. Clyde Sindayen, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Binalonan Police Station, said.

The front of the car was crushed, and the couple was rushed to the hospital.

The husband, the one behind the wheel during the incident, died later.

Authorities said the truck, which was carrying bananas, was headed to La Union, while the couple was traveling to Urdaneta City.

Debris from the impact also injured a pedestrian nearby.

The truck driver and his assistant were unharmed.

Police said the driver is facing charges. He is yet to release a statement, as of this posting.
