A fight that involved female students of a school in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

It was learned that the Grade 10 student who started the fight has been involved in another incident of physical attack at another student of Babag National High School in January 2025.

In a post on his social media page, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan shared the video that showed of a group of female students who went near another student outside of a convenience store. Their conversation is inaudible. A few minutes after one of the students displayed aggressive behavior. She started pulling the hair of the student standing outside of the store.

An attendant in an establishment adjacent to the convenience store and a vehicle dispatcher came to the rescue of the girl being attacked and to intervene.

The video showed that another student joined in the melee and hit the victim.

After a few minutes, the fight was stopped.

The victim, a Grade 11 student, sustained a bump on her head, abrasions, wounds, and contusions on her face, arms, and knees.

It was further learned that the victim sustained a torn nail during the incident.  

According to the 17-year-old victim, while she was heading for the house of a classmate after her class at 7:30 p.m. on March 4, 2025, she noticed of a group of girls tailing her. She turned toward the convenience store where the area has better lighting and the presence of a security guard.

However, the group followed her, accosted her, and started pulling her hair.

Chan summoned the group of female students and the victim in his office.

The student seen on CCTV who attacked the victim is a Grade 10 student of Babag National High School. The other student who joined in the physical attack is a Grade 9 student of Babag Night High School.

“Bien,” the suspect ,admitted they are members of a gang and that a few of their members are students of the junior high school in the said school.

According to the principal of Babag Junior High School, Cirila Degollacion, the suspect already has records of misbehavior, and that she is one of two students placed under modular learning arrangement. 

Meanwhile, Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) desk in charge in Barangay Babag, Maricel Pino, confirmed that three members of the gang, including the suspect, were involved in the physical assault of another Grade 8 student in the same school on January 13, 2025.
