A minivan fell off a sea vessel docked at the Baybay City Port in the Province of Leyte.

It was learned that the minivan was won in a raffle.

The incident happened dawn on March 4, 2025.

The black minivan was on board a roll on-roll off (ro-ro) vessel that departed Cebu on the night of March 3, 2025 and docked at Baybay City Port dawn the next day.

Upon arrival, the minivan rolled back to get off the vessel. However, crew members and port workers were surprised that the minivan rolled back rapidly and hit a mooring structure.

Due to the impact, the car fell off the ship into the water.

According to a porter who was around when the incident happened, the driver was able to get out of the car immediately and swam to safety.

To avert further disaster, the port management ordered immediately the retrieval of the minivan. With the use of a backhoe, the minivan was removed successfully out of the water by noontime on that same day.

In an interview with Engr. Norman Zurita, Baybay Port operations manager, he said that what happened was an accident. They moved to have the vehicle fished out of the water immediately so as not to hamper operations and also to avoid an oil spill. The ramp is used by other shipping lines that dock regularly at the port.

It was reported that the minivan is brand new, and won by the owner in a raffle in Cebu. The vehicle was transported supposedly to his residence in Leyte.

“Mao to nahitabo, hinay-hinay siya'g atras, pag-atras niya, paggawas niya, ani na siya sa ramp. Dire-diretso na siya paubos hangtod nabangga siya sa boullard, ni-abante siya, pabalik sa dagat, wan-a niya ma-control ang manobela,” Zurita said.
