A five-year-old boy drowned after the boat he was in, along with his father and two relatives, capsized in the waters of Guimaras.

The incident happened in the vicinity of Barangay Cabano, Municipality of San Lorenzo afternoon on March 5, 2025.

The boy’s father was also reported to have drowned, while their two relatives survived.

The body of the boy was retrieved morning on March 6, 2025.

As of this writing, the boy’s father referred to as “Jonel,” 34 years old, is still reported missing.

According to the police, the four persons set out to sea afternoon on March 5, 2025 to collect the fishing nets spread out at sea as a practice of most fishermen in the area. However, huge waves due to strong winds tipped their boat over.

The other two persons were rescued by residents in the area who learned of the incident.

Search and rescue operation conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is ongoing, as of posting time.
