Police arrested a 39-year-old man after he went on a rampage and tried to set his house on fire in Barangay Aponit, San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
Based on investigation, the suspect caused trouble suddenly in the neighborhood and alarmed his family and neighbors when he lit his house curtains on fire.
“Bigla na lang nagsunog ng bahay niya roon. Kumuha siya ng lighter at sinunog niya ‘yung kurtina ng bahay nila,” PMAJ. Resty Ventenilla, Deputy Chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said.
When police arrived, the suspect became more aggressive and yelled at the responding officers.
While being frisked, he allegedly pulled out a sachet of suspected shabu from his pocket and threw it away.
Authorities believe the suspect was under the influence of illegal drugs at that time.
“Nung kinuha iyon ng ating kapulisan, dinala rito at ipina-test sa crime lab ng Lingayen so it turned out to be positive,” Ventenilla said.
The suspect claimed he only burned his curtains because neighbors were stopping him from burning trash in the area.
“Para malaman ko kung sino nagbabawal sa akin magsunog ng basura, bakit ako pinagbabawalan, eh may mga bata,” the suspect said.
He is now facing charges of unjust vexation and violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
