The Local Government Unit of Iloilo City issued Executive Order (EO) Number 24 on the establishment of guidelines and new protocols in the suspension of face-to-face classes.
Schools heads, administrators, and university presidents are given the option to suspend in-person classes once the forecast heat index in the city reaches 40°Celsius.
Cancellation of in-person classes will be based on the 5 p.m. heat index advisory of state weather bureau PAGASA on the day prior to the regular school day.
Adjustment to class schedules may start early to be able to finish by noontime, wherein classes could shift to the alternative mode in the afternoon.
School heads are given the discretion to shift to Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) of instruction; however when the forecast heat index reaches 42°Celsius, in-person classes are suspended automatically to be able to shift to ADM.
The Iloilo City Government urged school administrators and university presidents to adopt the ADM.
It was learned that the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recommended the new threshold of 40°Celsius in determining the suspension of face-to-face classes based on PAGASA's 5 p.m. heat index advisory.
The EO signed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas took effectivity on March 9, 2025.
