The number of dengue cases in Region 1 have more than doubled in early 2025, reaching 1,064 cases as of February 22, 2025, according to the Center for Health Development (CHD) Region 1.

This is 114 percent higher compared to the 497 cases recorded in the same period in 2024.

Pangasinan reported the highest number with 529 cases, followed by La Union (220 cases), Ilocos Sur (167 cases), and Ilocos Norte (83 cases).

Six dengue-related deaths have been recorded: four in Pangasinan, and one each in La Union and Dagupan City.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, CHD Region 1 spokesperson, linked the rise in cases to recent changes in weather.

To address the surge, hospitals across the region have activated dengue fast lanes, ensuring that patients with symptoms receive immediate medical attention.

Concerned parents, like Angel Villamil from Dagupan City, take extra precautions to protect their children.

“Kailangan talaga palagi malinis, iwasan ‘yung mga may tubig na pwedeng magkaroon ng lamok,” she said.

Health officials continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, apply mosquito repellent, and seek immediate medical help if dengue symptoms appear.
