Brothers-in-law killed each other during an exchange of fire in Talisay City, Province of Negros Occidental.

The incident happened past midnight on March 14, 2025 in Sitio Mambucano, Barangay Cabatangan.

Michael Calapan, 32 years old, was shot by his brother-in-law, 37-year-old Peter John Salanatin. However, before Calapan succumbed to a gunshot wound, he retaliated and killed Salanatin.

Calapan’s mother, Jilda, said that she heard gunshots and went to check. She found her son with a gunshot wound on his chest, while Salanatin sustained a fatal wound on the head.

“Grabe ang kaba ko. Hinimatay nga ako. Hindi ko kasi alam. Syempre, anak ko yan, mahal ko [yan],” Jilda Calapan said.

According to police investigation that prior to the incident, Salanatin who was reportedly drunk hurled objects at Calapan’s house until a confrontation ensued.

“Si Peter [Salanatin) nambato sa bahay ng biktima. Nang lumabas na ang biktima, nag-result ng heated argument between them,” said Talisay City Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Salvador Trono, Jr.

It was learned that the two had a fight over customers, as they were both engaged in the selling of game cocks.

“Conflict sa kanilang trabaho. Nagbebenta sila ng manok, nag-aalaga kasi sila ng manok. Nag-aagawan sila ng mga customer nila,” Trono added.

Narcisa Valmeo, Salanatin’s wife, said that she has no idea that the two were in conflict.

“Hindi ko alam ang transaksyon nila. Wala akong alam sa transaksyon. Sobrang sakit, dahil bigla-bigla,” Valmeo said.
