Show cause order for illegal campaign posters was sent to at least 268 national candidates for the May 2025 midterm elections.

According to Commission on Elections (COMELEC) 7 Director Francisco Pobe that since February 11, 2025, or the start of the campaign period for national candidates, until March 15, 2025, a total of 268 parties and individuals were sent a show cause order on campaign materials posted in non-COMELEC designated areas.

The candidates are asked to explain why they should not be charged for violation of election laws.

Pobe disclosed that a total of 28,000 propaganda materials were removed during the “Operation Baklas” in Central Visayas.

Illegal campaign materials are expected to increase with the start of the campaign period for local candidates on March 28, 2025.

COMELEC has reiterated its call for candidates to serve as fine examples of what leaders should be and to maintain utmost propriety, not lawbreakers.

On the other hand, 97 percent of areas in Region 7 is placed under the Green category, or peaceful. However, Pobe said they cannot afford to be complacent with the classification.

He said they are extra cautious and prepared at all times for circumstances.
