The fight of two minor persons in Iloilo City resembles a boxing match.
A 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, said to be a member of the LGBTQIA community in Barangay West Habog-Habog, Molo District in Iloilo City were prodded to a boxing match by a barangay councilwoman.
The fistfight happened on March 11, 2025 between alias “Nene” and alias “Rey.”
The incident was caught on video.
Alias “Rey” was seen in the video wearing boxing gloves. Kibitzers in the video were seen cheering at the minors instead of stopping them.
The exchange of punches lasted for a few minutes.
Lenny Engada, a councilwoman of Barangay West Habog-Habog in Molo has been identified as the person who prodded the minors to a fistfight.
She said that the two were in a quarrel and were told to stop, but because the two minors were obstinate, they were asked to engage in a boxing match to settle the rift.
“Hindi na talaga kayo maawat? Sabi ko mula pa noong nakaraan ang konsumisyon ko sa inyo. Hindi ako makatulog sa ginagawa nyo,” Engada reasoned out.
However, the councilwoman's type of discipline did not sit well with the minors’ parents or guardians.
“Hindi siya dapat tularan na uri ng kagawad dahil sa halip na pagsabihan ang mga bata na huwag mag-away, siya pa mismo ang nagbigay ng gloves upang pag-awayin. Hindi ba niya naisip na ang anak ko babae? Maliit pang bata, tapos ang kalaban lalaki,” Marlon, the father of alias Nene, said.
"Nagulat ako na ganun ang nangyari. Sabi ko tama na yan. Yung nag-referee ay yung medyo matatanda na. Siyempre nagalit rin,” alias Rey’s aunt, Melanie, said.
The girl sustained wounds on the knees, and pain on the nape with the punches she received.
Engada said she resorted to letting the two box so they can vent out their anger.
She, however, admitted lapses in her judgment and apologized.
“Humihingi ako ng tawad kung nagkasala ako. Wala akong magawa, nandyan na yan,” Engada said.
The Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has summoned the two minors and their parents or guardians.
The minors will undergo rehabilitative counseling.
“Mayroon silang community service na ika-conduct ng Barangay West Habog-Habog at may attendance with documentation,” said Lenore Enriquez, Molo District case manager at Iloilo City CSWDO.
The barangay chairman summoned the councilwoman and told her to avoid a similar mistake.
