A policeman in Cagayan de Oro City was arrested for allegedly killing a man believed to be a police asset.
The victim, 43, was shot dead in Barangay Camaman-an dawn on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Before the incident, the victim filed a police blotter after reportedly receiving death threats.
Several witnesses have come forward and are cooperating with the police.
“Base pud sa mga witnesses nga atong nakuha didto ug nakuhaan nato og statement ubay-ubay pud naa pud mga witnesses nga miboluntaryo nga miadto sa atong opisina,” Cogon Police Station Chief, Major Sabino Labitad, said.
A few hours after the incident, police arrested the suspect, a police master sergeant, during hot pursuit.
Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the incident may be related to illegal drugs or a personal grudge.
“Dili sab nako pwede i-discount nga dunay kalambigitan sa illegal drugs ug uban pa nga basin adunay mga personal nga mga bingkil-bingkil amo pa sab ng palawman,” Labitad added.
The suspect is now detained and has refused to comment.
“Sa pagkakaron no comment sa ko ana sir pwede i-respect lang usa ang akong privacy,” the suspect said.
The suspect underwent a paraffin and drug test. He will face murder and administrative charges.
“Wala man siyay gipang-divulge nga mga information o unsa pa diha wala sab siyay gibutyag kung ngano ug nagpabilin nga nagpakahilom,” Labitad added.
