Had the estimated P800 million illegal drugs been delivered to Panay Island or in Iloilo Province, or if the items were not intercepted in Oriental Mindoro, the situation would have been alarming, according to Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.
“If that is the case, we see it as alarming, it serves as a challenge not only to the PNP but to other law enforcement agency,” PRO 6 Director, Brigadier General Jack Wanky said.
On March 24, 2025, Wanky said that the suspect in the transport of the estimated P816 million suspected shabu, Christopher Malco, is in the drug watchlist of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Malco drove a vehicle that carried the illegal drug items intercepted at Calapan City port in the Province of Oriental Mindoro.
However, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), Malco is not among the persons they have been monitoring.
“Actually, dito sa IPPO, walang monitoring regarding sa kanyang activity kasi based sa information, hindi siya dito nag-stay,” said IPPO spokesperson, Major Rolando Araño.
The Iloilo City Drug Enforcement Unit said otherwise.
Captain Ryan Christ Inot, head of the Iloilo City DEU, pointed out that while Malco lives in the province he is active in the illegal drugs trade in Iloilo City.
He said that Malco has persons that work for him in the distribution of the drug items.
“Siya ang source, ang kanyang mga tauhan, nandito sa city. May ilang naaresto na nagsabi na ito raw ang kanyang mga koneksyon dito sa city at sa province,” Inot said.
He added that Malco hangs out in areas in Iloilo City frequently on board his delivery truck.
“Tumatambay siya sa Jaro, ang kanyang truck, kaya nga nakita na namin siya at mabilis siyang nawawala kasi mga 30 minutes lang siyang tumatambay,” Inot further said.
GMA Regional TV News One Western Visayas tried to seek a statement from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 on the information disclosed by Iloilo City DEU but no official could provide a statement yet, as of this writing.
