Candidates in the Province of Cebu participated in a peace covenant signing morning on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO).
Candidates for various elective positions such as for governor, vice governor, House representative, and Provincial Board (PB) members from Cebu Province’s seven districts signed the covenant initiated by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the CPPO.
However, not all local bets were able to attend the event. No specific reasons were given for their absence.
The event opened with an interfaith prayer and brief messages from stakeholders of the May 2025 midterm elections.
After taking their oath to uphold peace in the elections, the candidates signed the peace covenant.
They affixed their signature on a Commitment Wall mounted for the event.
To cap the event, the local candidates released white doves as a symbol of their aspiration for genuine peace.
Police Colonel Jovito Atanacio, CPPO director, said that while the Province of Cebu is classified under the Green category which means "peaceful," they would not allow complacency to take hold.
Atty. Marchel Sarno, Provincial COMELEC supervisor, said he trusts in the capability of law enforcers in Cebu Province to ensure peace and order in the conduct of the polls.
