Four job-hire employees of the Iloilo City Engineer’s Office are suspended beginning Friday, March 28, 2025, for using a government vehicle beyond duty hours, and in drunken stupor.
The incident was caught on video that went viral on social media. However, as of posting time, the uploader took down the video.
According to an investigation by the City Engineer’s Office, the four admitted to drunkenness after attending a birthday party. The employees were proceeding back to the Iloilo City Hall when they figured in a road rage at the coastal area in the vicinity of Barangay Ingore, La Paz District evening of March 27, 2025.
The driver of the government vehicle is their team leader.
“May memorandum kaming pwede nilang dalhin ang sasakyan dahil ang trabaho namin ay on-call, troubleshooting sa electrical. May violation sila dahil wala namang order sa amin na lumabas sila sa gabi,” according to Joel Gerasmia, head of Task Force Boltahe of Iloilo City Engineer’s Office.
The team leader refused an interview when GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas sought for his comment.
“May one-month suspension ngayon. And maybe kung ano pa ang mangyayari dito, may termination pang mangyayari,” Gerasmia added.
Moreover, Gerasmia said they remind constantly the employees that use of government vehicles for personal transactions is strictly prohibited.
In a statement issued by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, he expressed that he does not condone the action or behavior of the employees.
