At least 11 stalls were razed to the ground after a fire hit a public market in General Santos City dawn on Monday, March 31, 2025.

The vegetables, fruits, and grocery items sold at the stalls were burned. The stocks for the upcoming Holy Week were also affected.

“Mga preparation namu para sa Holy Week, pangbinignigt, naa na naka repack pero wala na, naugdaw gyud siya tanan,” Lalay Dionson, a worker of one of the stalls affected, said.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and the cost of damage.

“Base sa tanod or watchman…diri daw gikan sa likod kining gina-inspection karon sa Bureau of Fire. On going pa ang assessment,” Barangay Social Welfare and Development Officer, Romeo Tancinco, said.

The 11 stall owners are now being profiled for the assistance from the local government unit.
